WHAT IF EVERYONE LOVED?

So I'm taking this Visual Language class where we are supposed to be focusing on creating a campaign. It could be a product, a group, a concept; it could pretty much be anything. I've decided to try out focusing on creating a campaign out of an idea I've had for a while now: "What if everyone loved?" I had to make a 10 minute presentation for it and will be presenting it tomorrow. Hopefully, it works out. We'll see.

And for the record, the images were collected off of the internet, they are just used for reference for my writing. Ode to the creators.

I have been in the mood write a lot lately. So many experiences, so many different thoughts, and so many feelings that no matter how many times I try to draw it or illustrate it, it doesn't work.

Since I started sketching, I have always had this thing about drawing myself in the moment. How I feel, how I feel physically, who I am, what I'm thinking, how others could possibly perceive me. It's just something I do. Just a rough little sketch. Lately I've been in the mood to express myself that way. I took a break for a while, but it's back.

So here are a few recent ones. More to come. I feel like finishing my Quotidian project, it kind of just fizzled out....

Mapping

Well hello everyone.

Right now we are working on a huge mapping project which to be honest is a little time constraining. In all of my classes I've been trying to limit my options in terms of medium simply because I usually either go straight to the computer or photography. With this particular project I really wanted to be able to do everything hand made. So that means literally drawing everything.

For this project we are supposed to be exploring spaces. My space is bases on "Things Over My Head". So metaphorically I guess you could say that they are situations that I can't control or usually don't recognize overall. So this is everything from mapping my thoughts to my travel time.

This is just the first revision, Wexler was stoked about the idea but felt that I need to simplify, so woohoo for round two....

So I've been a little busy and should have been updating this thing but I have been super busy, super stressed, and everything else in the middle of that. But alas, that has not stopped my process of creating.

This specific project was about making movie posters for a fake movie festival. We basically had to create 4 posters that reflected our three chosen movies (I chose Amelie, Moulin Rouge, and Science of Sleep) and our concept. My concept was BEND your reality--- or the way you see reality I guess. So yes. Enjoy :)

Ok. So Daniel had this bright idea to do a sort of a summer club thing where we try to paint as big as our comfort zone will let us. Well. Me being a new painter was like "Oh! This'll be fun!". Well I ordered a 48"x56" panel. Me not thinking about just figured it was big. Well I go to school to go pick it up, THIS THING IS BIGGER THAN ME!!! So now I'm stuck with a huge panel and a little scared to actually start applying paint... but besides that.

I have been doing a few drawings. Just some stuff to get through the craziness.

Ok. So I finally was able to scan all of my crap into my computer. I don't know how in the heck I am going to get 70 pieces because as of now I only have about 26..... yes Daniel, I know you're gonna kill me. Sorry, I'm trying. But anywho. Here they are, I'm stoked about some of them. My favorite ones are the doll one ad the fish. Interesting things I must say. Life's been a little crazy lately inbetween getting sick and then getting my wisdom teeth pulled, not to mention that I will have to get ready for a fair and probably pull a whole bunch of all nighters this week in order to get all my hw done and looking tight.

I realized that I haven't posted in a while but I considering that I got sick, then went to SD then got my teeth pulled and have been out of it for a while, and that of all the technology my family doesn't have we don't have a scanner, so I am at a loss of scanning in any of my drawings. So for those of you who actually do check up on my blog, I am sorry, I will have my drawings up before this next friday :D. Until then, I'll see you guys later.

things lost, things gained

So things have been a little crazy lately. Between jobs, lack of time, lack of calling people, relationship issues, finding out that things have changed so drastically in one year, gaining new friendships that have suddenly sprouted strongly, mixing with old friends, realizing how different I used to be, and realizing that I am finally feeling like myself, everything has been chaotic.

I am pleased to say though that my artwork has been exploding. Ideas are coming to mind and the fact that I am so enthused to draw has kept me going. These drawings are a little more literal than usual but to be honest that is just how I have felt lately and to make a metaphor for them was somewhat at a loss this time. Sorry if none of this is making sense. It's 2 in the morning and I had an urge to update and show the world my work. I should really get some sleep...

Seriously though. Give me some comments. I wanna know what people are thinkin. :)

Aha! I have been busting out drawings like there is no tomorrow! Why? Because I just keep on coming up with visual metaphors and have had way too many conversations with people lately to where they should be document in some form and not forgotten. So there you have it. My next few. I believe that they are numbers 9-13. Wow I'm on fire!!!

So this weekend was a little crazy. Fun but crazy. Celebrating my mom's b-day and all in SD, fun stuff I say. Fun stuff. But anywho, I was stupid and didn't scan in any of my Otidian work, but I was looking through my old sketchbooks and I found these sweet drawings I was into but never really finished. I kind of want to paint them but I don't exactly know how to paint so we'll see. Jay says that he'll show me some painting techniques on friday so hopefully these things can get done sooner or later. I might just laser cut them because they look so sweet!!

So this has been one of the craziest 24 hours ever. Besides the fact that I only got 3 hours of sleep last night, this morning I woke up at 6:20, had sean drive me to school (cuz my car is in the shop) at 7:15, went to work at 7:30, then went to my other job at 10, then class at 12:30 to 6:15, then had to go pick up my car, then got home at 7:15 to get ready to drive back to San Diego. Dude. I am wiped out! But anyways....

The drawings!!!! Drew 2 more!!! Way stoked! 7 and 8 are done!!! Woooohoooo!!

Allo everyone! Well, for it being 9:34 in the morning it is amazing how awake I am, probably because I actually got sleep last night. I had three classes yesterday so by the end of last night, I was dead. Kim and I were supposed to do homework but we were way too tired. It was crazy. But anywho.... the drawings!

Ok. So this is number 5 and 6 of my 70 that I need to get done. I drew another one, but it looks like crap and I don't want to include it so here are the two that I want for my final project. Basically the first one, the one w/ the robot, is an interpretation of an event I had with a translator. Heated argument at 2am in the morning. Fun stuff I say, fun stuff. As for the Giant 8 ball one, that is just how I've been feeling lately. As Kim says "she has a lot of stuff being dropped on her lately" which is true because so much stuff has been going on, I am surprised that I am not pulling my hair out. So yeah, that's basically it. I'm getting really stoked about these drawings because they are some of the best things I've been coming up with lately. The only thing that bugs me is that they take like 2-4 hours to get one done..... arggg....

So this is the newest drawing to the collection of Quotidian drawings I'm doing for Daniel's class. It was funn, Bob Dob came into class the other day and was checking out our stuff. I was pretty stoked when he said I was prett talented! Woohoo. I sound like a little girl all stoked to see N*SYNC or something, but anywho. Here is the drawing. It is based on an idea me and my friend had and I have to say, the results were pretty tight. :)

WELL. I started on two sketches yesterday that took the majority of my day and I am so stoked about them that I had to post them up. And just for the record, the giraffe one is a little boring but I am trying to think of what to put there, so bear with me. I think I want to include a graphic in most of my illustrations but we will have to see. I also want to incorporate more victorian style backgrounds, but we will have to see for those as well. But here they are!!!! So look at em!!

Ok. So for Daniel's class we I told him I'd have 70 drawings completed for my marathon project by the end of the semester. That is in May. I don't know if I told you about what the project is exactly. Well. Daniel had this bright idea to do 1000 paintings continuously. So start it, finish it, and move on. He has asked us to do the same, just not that big of a number. We have to have a theme and we need to stick to our "contract" number and all that fun stuff.

So. There we go. My project is called Quotidian. Basically me interpreting my daily life, events, and people around me, into a illustrative unreal situations. Here are a few of my first sketches... more to come.... believe me....

Crazy things in the life of Danielle...

Well. Besides a very draining long night, this weekend has been crazy, nutty, long, psycho, hysterical, sad, and interesting. It was just a long weekend. But anywho...

So for Comm. Arts I'm gonna have to make a poster based on a book. My book? Well If you'd like to know, my book is the Scarlett Letter. We had to brainstorm a lot and come up with 3 themes, 7 pictures each. I thought mine was good. But then the teachers all decided that all our stuff could be "better" so they are having us completely rethink our themes and our pictures. Joy.

Well. Anyways. Here was the first round. Enjoy, I will be posting some Drawing and Painting stuff later...

Haha. Well ok, not really. Daniel Lim is my new Drawing and Painting teacher and he asked us to make a blog. I've already started this one but considering the fact that I never use it, it would be a perfect opportunity to show what I am doing in his class and what I am working on.

So. What am I working on? Well, thanks for asking :). What I am working on (or hopefully going to work on) is a series of drawings interpreting different, situations, feelings, events, and conversations that occur during my daily routine through unreal characters and situations. I am pretty sure that those of you who have seen my art generally know me as a graphic designer. Well let me let you in on a little secret... I can draw too!! I have come up with a new art style for myself. Lets just say that last semester I had an epiphany about my artwork and my art style, so most of the stuff that is going to be uploaded is stuff you have never seen before. In general, most of my work is for myself and my own thoughts, but now you have the pleasure of seeing what inspires me, what goes through my head and what I have to deal with everyday now that I am living in LA.

So yes. That is my project. I'll keep you updated....

so why my own website?

Well. Considering that I have a blog. I figured that it would probably be important to explain why I have this website. First, let me introduce myself. My name is Danielle Camilo and I am a student, graphic designer, and proud business owner of www.VoloDesigns.net. I currently go to Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles and have to say that I am loving it. But back to the point.

Earlier this year (2007) my business' website shut down due to me trying to figure out html (not a good idea if you don't know what you are doing...). Because I couldn't edit the site for another 30 days after the screw up, I had to make a new website fast so that I could process orders and have the site up and running for a festival that was going to be held later that month. So www.daniellecamilo.com was born.

Now, why am I making this blog? Well, lately I had a crazy epiphany and realized that I shouldn't be censoring my art just because people look at it. I also realized that my business work is one thing, but what about the stuff that is just for me that I care about? So this is my portfolio website and insider on how my graphic process is handled and how I can be an artist as well. Growing up I learned a lot from looking up other graphic designers and illustrator's work and process, so maybe my work can be inspirational as well :)
